The Lone Libertarian

DNC Coverage

Posted in Miscellaneous Stuff, National Politics, Tennessee Politics by jesse on the August 26th, 2008

I have got to say, the live feed that the Democrats at broadcasting via the web of the Democratic National Convention is pretty nice.  It’s not that I really want to participate in the hopechangefreehealthcaresocialism love fest, but I’d rather get a raw feed without the news networks’ comments or dilution.

I’m not going to link the actual site that the feed is on (because I don’t want to pimp the Democrats more than I already am), however it is easy to find.  The feed is pretty impressive with a “TV Guide like” schedule and previously recorded video that you can watch as well as live video, and looks to be HD.  You have to have Windows with Silverlight installed to watch (Mac users can too), however no love for the Linux crowd.

Here is where I rib the Tennessee and US Libertatian Party.  You guys should take a look at this technology and take note.  A live feed on CSPAN occasionaly, or prerecorded speech is not enough.  A live internet feed insures that people can get the entire event unabridged and untainted by biased opinion.  Virtually speaking it gives “new media” (bloggers, podcasters, vloggers, etc) a press pass to event without having to travel.

Cost-wise, it is relatively inexpensive to broadcast via the Internet.  The more eyes that are on Libertarian events, the better for the party and the movement as a whole.

If nothing else, I would like the state and national parties to sell convention DVDs with the highlights and speeches, or place them on YouTube.

The technology is there to reach a larger audience, it just needs to be leveraged, and soon.

RangeUSA Damaged

Posted in Miscellaneous Stuff by jesse on the August 19th, 2008

According to the RangeUSA website, they had structural failure in the wing of the building that houses the restaurant and the large range.  I’m not sure if the ceiling caved, but the large range is out of service as the target retrievers crashed to the floor.  The restaurant is also closed indefinitely.

The smaller range is still open, but man thats going to be cramped for the number of people that come in and out of there in a week’s time.

That was my favorite area range.  I guess I’ll have to select another area range as my “home range” for the interim.

Buying The Ticket And Taking The Ride

Posted in Miscellaneous Stuff by jesse on the August 8th, 2008

I really envy those who take life by the reigns and throw all caution to the wind.

In the news today, retired US Air Force Colonel Jack Moelmann has rented Radio City Music Hall for $120,000 so that he can live his dream of playing the organ there.

Tomorrow night Jack, and a few organists that he is paying out of pocket to join him, will play for two hours for anyone who decides to show up.

Colonel Moelmann doesn’t seem to care if he makes any of his money back, he just wants to fulfill his dream and mark one more item off his bucket list.

Bravo.  If I lived in New York, I would not miss this show.

What’s The Line in The Sand?

Posted in Miscellaneous Stuff, Second Amendment by jesse on the August 6th, 2008

Last night’s Gun Nuts: The Next Generation podcast was well framed for the time constraints that BlogTalk radio places on its hosts.

However, I heard the guests and callers say something that should be addressed in another show (or format).  The gist of the statement was “I would invoke my right to revolution if the government crossed a certain line.”

My questions to all gun advocates that make this claim are following (in the context of Second Amendment rights).

  1. What level of government infringement would it take for you to take up arms?  (local, state, federal)
  2. What is the proverbial “line in the sand”?  (microchiping gun owners, federal id to purchase a gun)
  3. Would you be willing to act without organization?

These are just for starters.

Glock G17 Holster Recommendations

Posted in Miscellaneous Stuff, Second Amendment by jesse on the August 6th, 2008

Does anyone out there have any recommendations for good quality, comfortable outside and inside the pants holsters for a Glock G17?  I need one with the quickness.

I don’t really like leather, but I’m open to the suggestion.

Rubbish Obama Rap Song

Posted in Miscellaneous Stuff, National Politics by jesse on the July 31st, 2008

I don’t know if having Ludacris on your side is necessarily a good thing.  I heard this rubbish on the radio this morning.  Seems to be sweeping the Internet as well.

Here are some nuggets from the lyrics:

Will give Luda a special pardon if I’m ever in the slammer
Better yet put him in office, make me your vice president
Hillary hated on you, so that bitch is irrelevant

the first black president is destined and it’s meant to be
the threats ain’t fazing us, the nooses or the jokes
so get off your ass, black people, it’s time to get out and vote!
paint the White House black and I’m sure that’s got ‘em terrified

McCain don’t belong in ANY chair unless he’s paralyzed
Yeah I said it cause Bush is mentally handicapped
Ball up all of his speeches and I throw em like candy wrap
cause what you talking I hear nothing even relevant
and you the worst of all 43 presidents
get out and vote or the end will be near
the world is ready for change because Obama is here!

Let me tell you I’m really digging the personal attacks and racist overtones.  Heh.

Designer Bulletproof Clothing

Posted in Miscellaneous Stuff by jesse on the July 31st, 2008

A Colombian clothing designer has unveiled a new line of clothing that will repel automatic weapon fire.

Not sure if I’d put that to the test, but I guess walking on the streets of Colombia, you do what you need to live, thrive, and survive.  Heh.

Rolling Shootout in Memphis

Posted in Miscellaneous Stuff, News & Current Events by jesse on the July 30th, 2008

Here’s a story developing this afternoon from Memphis.

It would appear that occupants of two vehicles on Summer Avenue near Hudson were shooting at one another causing a three car crash.

It seems that a home and business were struck with bullets as well as a vehicle.

The Commerical Appeal writer describes a gun and a “clip” of ammunition being left at the scene.  Who wants to bet that it was actually a “magazine” with ammunition in it?

Neighbors said gunshots on the small stretch of street are common.

The rule in the neighborhood is if you hear gunshots, “hit the flo’ and get low.”

Journalism at its finest.

British Police Releases Ridiculous 999 Calls

Posted in Miscellaneous Stuff by jesse on the July 30th, 2008

The Avon and Somerset police in Britain set up a Youtube channel that sets out to shame those who make ridiculous calls to 999 (an emergency service like 911 here in the US).

Link here.

There are some real gems in here.

Here’s a taste.
