Glock G17 Holster Recommendations
Does anyone out there have any recommendations for good quality, comfortable outside and inside the pants holsters for a Glock G17? I need one with the quickness.
I don’t really like leather, but I’m open to the suggestion.

As far as IWB goes, I would suggest a Crossbreed Supertuck. I have one for my 1911’s, and it’s by far the most comfortable holster I’ve ever tried. A lot of forum users would back me up, and if you don’t like it, he has a 2 week return policy, no questions asked. It’s leather and kydex, and it works.
For OWB, I would suggest a Blackhawk CQC w/ Serpa lock. Used one with my USP, and with my 1911’s. Maybe be a tad harder to conceal than some other OWB’s, but you can still do it. Comfortable and functional.

The Fobus holsters are ugly as sin, but they work and they’re inexpensive. Many of the local gun shops carry them. Uncle Mike’s makes some decent, reasonably-priced Kydex holsters, too, and you can get them at Sportsman’s Warehouse.
I’ve seen the Blackhawk holsters at the local gun shops, too, but I personally don’t like the little retention lock. I think it’s entirely extraneous on a Kydex holster. If the gun is locking into place by virtue of the plastic molding of the holster, why add a little lock?

For IWB, I like the Comp-Tac MTAC which is available on their site. That’s what you saw me carrying my G19 in at the blogger meet. I wear it about 14 hours a day, every day, seven days a week. With a good belt (you ARE going to get a good belt, right?) it is trouble-free and absolutely comfortable.
I have a whole box of OWB holsters. Fobus makes a good paddle holster — not their traditional one, but the “performance series” or somesuch, that have red on the inside of the paddle. They’re made of a cushion-y, flexible plastic that makes them very comfortable. I wouldn’t wear it every day, but it’s great for yardwork because I don’t have to worry about sweat.
Most of my OWB’s are leather jobs from Bianchi or Galco. Pretty much any leather holster from a reputable manufacturer is serviceable for me, moreso because if I’m wearing OWB I’m either wearing a winter coat or open carrying, so I’m not worried about concealment.

I’ve carried my G19 every day for a year in a Grandfather Oak “Hidden Companion”, and it’s great. It’s cheap, slim, and once you get the belt loop thing adjusted right, it’s stable and easy to put on and take off without undoing your belt. You will need a good belt.
I also like the CTAC and Blade-Tech UCH, both of which I used a lot when I carried a USP-45F.
OWB, I cannot recommend against the Serpa enough. More than a few trainers have banned the design from their classes due to retention failures and safety issues. I usually prefer kydex, but a slim, broad, leather pancake with an aggressive forward cant tucks in nicely and conceals well under a jacket. For range use I like the Uncle Mike’s kydex holster and mag pouch for being simple, reliable and super cheap.

I like the Sidearmor (www.sidearmor.com) IWB for the G17. It is made of thin Kydex. It is available in left or right, J-hooks or belt loops, three different cant angles, three different belt widths, tuckable or non-tuckable, and just about any combination thereof. The best part, to me, is that all of these options are user-replaceable. Sidearmor sells the mounting accessories separately, for under $10 each, and they are field-exchangeable with a hex-wrench.

I appreciate all of the replies. Thanks everyone for the prompt and detailed information. I plan on making a decision this weekend for both a IWB and OWB. I’ll report back with my selections.
