Memphis General Election Today!

Posted in News & Current Events, Tennessee Politics by jesse on the October 4th, 2007

The Memphis municipal election is today, Tuesday, October 4, 2007. The polls close at 7pm this evening, I know that I will be watching the local networks closely for the election results.

I heard something rather disturbing from the Drake & Zeke show on 98.1 FM. A former Memphis resident, whom had moved to Mississippi 4-5 years ago stood in line at their old polling location and was able to cast a vote. By way of the local paper, also to my alarm, Harold Ford Sr., whose permanent residence is based in Florida (not Memphis) was allowed to vote during early voting.

Tennessee law requires voters to keep their permanent residence in the state, and according to state law, voters here can only have one permanent residence.

Given the track record of Shelby County elections, where dead people and felons seem to get to vote, I’m sure this one will be a photo finish.

More to come later.
